Sheldon Souray back in line up for Oilers

Sheldon Souray hit in St. Louis (by AP)

Oilers defenseman Sheldon Souray is back in the lineup in tonight’s Hockey Night in Canada game against the New York Rangers.  He injured his shoulder in Wednesday’s game versus the St. Louis Blues.  He thankfully only missed one game (as opposed to the 2 he missed early in the season versus Vancouver), which is good because the Oilers need all the defense they can get.

Mathieu Garon is starting in his third straight game.  He played well in the Oilers’ 5-2 loss against the Predators, but the defense really failed to play well and he faced 20 SOG in the first period.  You cannot win games allowing this many shots, and the Oilers need to light up their defense.

Ales Hemsky is returning tonight, which is great news for the slumping team.  He’s been out since 12/22/07, and even though he passes too much and doesn’t shoot enough, having him back will be a lift for the team.

The game is on Hockey Night in Canada, which might help the team.  I don’t know the stats of how the Oilers do on HNC, but I do know they have not played well at home this year.

I think it will be a fun game to watch, as long as the Oilers D steps it up.  It’s always fun to watch Don Cherry and his suits, anyway…
